A bank of quick, low-stakes starter questions for OCR GCSE (9–1) Business (J204), sorted by component and sub-topic. Six question types, each testing a genuinely different move: True/False (verify a claim), Spot the Mistake (find and correct an error), Quick Fire Definition (precise recall), Correct the Calculation (find and fix a numerical error), and two that are easy to confuse but deliberately different — see below.
OCR's GCSE Business spec is deliberately narrow and specific — each topic lists exactly what's examinable under “points to include,” and going beyond that (e.g. naming a model or term the spec doesn't mention) can cost marks or teach students something an examiner won't credit. Every question here is checked against the accredited spec (J204, Version 2.0) so it tests only what's actually on it — no Ansoff Matrix, Porter's Five Forces, Maslow, SMART objectives or similar A-level material has been introduced.
Odd One Out is deliberately contestable: students pick which of four items doesn't belong and have to justify the classification — a defensible case can sometimes be made for more than one answer, and that's the point. It's a reasoning/argument exercise, not a lookup.
Which Doesn't Fit has exactly one diagnostically correct answer, turning on a precise spec distinction. It's not up for debate — it tests whether a student has nailed exactly what is and isn't in the spec's list for that topic.
Filter by component, sub-topic and/or question type, then hit Generate 10, Generate 5, or Generate 3 to pull a random set onto the grid — the same way you'd fill boxes on a starter slide.
